By simulating molecular interactions at a fundamental level, quantum computers can drastically reduce the time and cost required to develop new pharmaceuticals and advanced materials, providing a massive boost to India's domestic R&D ecosystem.

In an era where cybersecurity threats are increasingly sophisticated, Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) offers theoretically unhackable communication networks. The NQM aims to develop secure satellite-based quantum communications covering thousands of kilometers within India and with other countries. This technology is critical for national security, securing defense communications, banking networks, and sensitive government data against future threats posed by adversarial quantum computers.

Quantum Sensing and Materials

The mission also focuses on developing highly sensitive quantum sensors. These devices can precisely measure magnetic fields, gravity, and time, leading to breakthroughs in mineral exploration, medical diagnostics (like ultra-precise MRIs), and autonomous navigation systems that don't rely on GPS. Furthermore, research into novel quantum materials will support the manufacturing of the physical hardware required to build these advanced systems domestically.
